At his heaviest, Ross Smith struggled to keep fit and was told he was a “big lad” after tipping the scales at 21st 11lbs.
The 36-year-old knew he had to do something about his weight as he found it difficult to play with his little daughter.
He tried various diets, but couldn’t ever stick to anything as he felt like it restricted him.
Speaking exclusively to Daily Star Online, Ross, from Hereford, shared his incredible weight loss journey with the help of Slimming World.
“Her first words were ‘wow Ross you’re a big lad’”
Ross said: “The reason I joined Slimming World on January 24 this year was down to my best friend’s mum, who is also a member.
“She hadn’t seen me for a while and when she did, her first words were ‘wow Ross you’re a big lad’ and then told me all about Slimming World.
“I also knew I needed to do something about my weight as I struggled to do everyday things and always felt like I could do more with my little daughter.
“With Slimming World I could still eat some amazing foods and I started to see results after just a couple of weeks.”
Ross began following the Slimming World’s Food Optimising eating plan – a method which doesn’t use calorie counting or obsessive weighing.
Within 10 months, he saw results which encouraged him to introduce exercise into his daily routine.
“I swam pretty much every day before work and I’ve found it’s helped me in so many ways,” Ross added.
“I’ve started to tone my body as well as helping me to lose weight.”
He continued: “I also go to the gym to go on the treadmill which is something I would never have done 10 months ago.”
Since he joined his local group, Ross now weighs a healthy 15st 8.5lbs and claims changed his outlook on life.
The dad shops for clothes without feeling embarrassed and has more energy which helps his job.
Ross told Daily Star Online: “It’s so important to stick to the plan and not give up. It’s so easy to slip into old ways when you have so much temptation around you.
“It’s knowing that you can still enjoy the occasional night out or treat and not feel like it’s the end of the world.
“Slimming World has made me enjoy food in a completely different way. I really enjoy cooking and there are so many recipes that you can have to make sure you stick to the plan.”
With the Food Optimising eating plan, Ross claims he “hasn’t really cut a lot out” of his diet and still enjoys foods in moderation.
“When you stick to the plan you can’t go wrong,” he added.
“I have changed from drinking pints of lager to gin and slimline tonic which I find much more enjoyable.”
Ross concluded: “I don’t eat chocolate and crisps as much anymore, but still enjoy a treat every now and then.
“What I love about Slimming World is that you can eat much more enjoyable foods that fulfil you in just the same way, so you never feel like you’re missing out.”
